Loves of my life!

I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive. Gilda Radner

Henna, Laika & Urs

My dogs:

My first own dog was Henna. My wonderful, much loved Henna. I don't know much - in fact almost nothing - about her previous life before she became my soul mate at age two years and four month in June 2006. She is scared by a number of things which I believe must be left overs from her old home although I cannot say that for certain. She has trouble trusting people but her love for humans of all ages and genders is usually stronger than her fear.
Henna also appears to struggle with problems regarding "reading" other dogs behaviour. She is usually not certain if a dog is friendly or aggressive towards her and so she can be very insecure and uncertain about those things. Her general reaction towards people and dogs alike is "if in doubt - attack!".
Henna-girl is a free spirit. She needs to run and roam freely. I often feel that that is one of the very few things that make her truely and completly happy. While she has actually run away from me twice just around the time we started meeting little Laika puppy and when Laika was home with us for only a short while it was more testing if we really liked her. If we still cared about her. Even in those situations Henna surprised us all by seeking people when she got lost as if she nevertheless had that very deep trust that people will make sure she is ok and will make sure she gets home. She just wandered in some house through an open back door and went to seek out someone to help her. The person who found her said all of a sudden there was a dog standing in her living room she had never seen before. And with the help of the police I got my Henna back three and a half very long hours after she ran off. Laika and Henna have finally become good friends. Despite some disagreements on who get the best treat they get along fine. They enjoy playing together and running together and can accept sharing "their humans". While Laika still tries to figure out just how much nonsense she can get away with Henna as become a lot calmer. It is as if living with another dog finally gave her some peace. Henna is now "only" a very active and energetic dog but she no longer is so "hyperactive" that concentration and self-control seem impossible for her. My big girl has turned into a dream of a dog. Of course, she always was it to me, but now she even lets others infer that from her behaviour.
Laika is a dog who interestingly has no single aggressive streak of personality within her. She will tolerate being hit and kicked by some incosiderate people she unfortunately encountered in our neighbours and just stands there and looks. She won't retreat but neither will she defend herself unless she thinks her family may be in danger. If that is the case she will take an "attacking pose" and growl but won't attack. Maybe she would if I would allow her to but of course I don't. If I tell her "be good" in that situation she will come back to me calmly and observe carefully but leave it at that.
Laika also has an ongoing like for everything and everyone regardless of whether it is two, three or four legges, regardless of whether it has wings or is a cat. She things everything and everyone is a friend. She has a very strong character and is very active and tempramental (even too much for her breed at times) but capable of calming down very quickly and will walk confidently and relaxed even in very tense or stressful situations such as busy airports or outside dogshows with a thunderstorm approaching. All dogs went plain bonkers and she makes herself comfortable and - being utterly calm - watched with something reminiscent of "amused interest" what all the others were in such a tizzy about. It was very amusing to watch.

Passions of my life:

I have some passions in my life and those are what I live for. I love nature. I love the sounds of running water, I love the sounds of the wind in the trees and the birds on their branches. I love the mud puddles and the green fields. I love the icy cold winter wind on my face and the snow under my shoes. I love the mud that tries to pull off my rubber boots and the rain on my face. I love the sunshine and the twisting paths through the forrest. I love the rocks, the blueberries and most of all the silence. I strongly believe that bad weather is extremly rare, in most cases the problem is not the weather but the clothing.
I love spending my weekends in nature with my partner and my dogs. I love the sun reflecting on their coats and my partners hair. I love the raindrops on faces and fur. I can imagine no greater pleasure than watching the dogs run and investigate and all of us playing. What more could I want of life?
Also, I love music. I love my piano, my classical guitar and my violin. I love classical music and modern music. I can enjoy J.S. Bach, A. Vivaldi, Dvorak and Smetana. And I love Rock and Punk Rock. Whether it is Queen, Bad Religion or Hammerfall. Or my favorite German bands of course. Those left over from my teenage years.
The thing that is most relevant for this little "web project" is my passion for photography. So I hope someone will be able to share some of my joy through the photos of my dogs.
